Top 3 best series
Welcome to a new post on my movie blog, this time I want to share my top 3 series with you and as a bonus, I’ll leave you with: a fourth series that left a mark on me and which I believe marked the beginning of TV series as mega film productions, a spin-off, and a movie.
1. The Wire (2002)
Summary: An acclaimed police series that explores the complexities of the criminal justice system in Baltimore, from the perspective of the police, drug dealers, politicians, and residents of the city.
Each season focuses on a fundamental aspect, touching on topics such as the American education system, politics and corruption, globalization that has led to the outsourcing of companies and job loss (well portrayed with the dockworkers), and all of this with the thread of drugs.
This series is essential for me and a masterpiece by David Simon, which I write about with sadness since the actors who played our beloved Omar Little and Cedric Daniels died a few years ago. This series offers numerous teachings, but undoubtedly one of the most important is from Lester Freamon:
“You follow drugs, you get drug addicts and drug dealers. But you start to follow the money, and you don’t know where the fuck it’s gonna take you.”
Awards: Winner of an Emmy Award and numerous other nominations, especially for the performances of its cast and its clever script. Plus other awards.
Interestingly, it didn’t have much television success but has undoubtedly become a cult series.
Duration: Five seasons with episodes of approximately one hour each.
2. The Office (US version) (2005)
Summary: A mockumentary comedy that follows the daily lives of employees in an office in Scranton, Pennsylvania, through the lens of a documentary crew.
With this series, I’ve laughed and cried, but above all, laughed. At first, it’s a bit hard to watch because everything Michael Scott does or says feels unbearable to watch due to the second-hand embarrassment it generates, but then you’ll love this series. I must warn you about the terrible emptiness it leaves inside when it ends. After that, I tried to watch the original series, which is from the UK, but I found it impossible to watch after this, I didn’t even get through the first episode.
Awards: Winner of an Emmy Award and numerous other nominations, especially for the performances of its cast and its clever script. Plus other awards.
Duration: Nine seasons with episodes of approximately 20-25 minutes each.
3. Breaking Bad (2008)
Summary: A high school chemistry teacher becomes a manufacturer and distributor of methamphetamine after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, in a desperate attempt to secure his family’s financial future.
I’ll tell you that the spin-off of this series: Better Call Saul (2015) is very good and is at the same level, so I recommend it to you. Also, there is a Breaking Bad movie that should be watched at the end of the series called El Camino (2019).
Awards: Widely praised and awarded, including multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Awards, especially for the performances of Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul.
Duration: Five seasons with episodes of approximately one hour each.
Bonus Series:
4. Lost (2004)
Summary: A group of survivors of a plane crash are stranded on a mysterious island, where they must face both natural and supernatural dangers as they struggle to survive and uncover the secrets of the island.
I have a special fondness for this series as it was one of the first series for me that was different from everything before, it seemed like a blockbuster production and had nothing to do with the previous low-budget series. Although the story is tremendously convoluted, it is very entertaining and leaves memorable quotes like: “Not Pennys boat”
And I’ll add that I liked the ending, I found it very beautiful, I recommend looking for the explanation because it’s not easy but certainly not what people think at first.
Awards: Critically acclaimed and winner of several Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.
Duration: Six seasons with episodes of approximately one hour each.
If you’re interested in watching these series, you can access them and many more through the Stremio program. If you still don’t know what Stremio is, here is the installation and usage guide:
