2 amazing series with new seasons in 2024
One must acknowledge that HBO creates magnificent works of art, from classics like The Wire or The Sopranos to blockbuster productions like Game of Thrones. This year 2024, they’re premiering the second season of two thrilling series that promise to give us hours of entertainment.
True Detective
I could never quite recover from the first season of True Detective, a masterpiece in the mystery and suspense genre, with a complex and fascinating plot, memorable characters, and a dark, melancholic atmosphere. Matthew McConaughey’s performance is top-notch and hooks you from the very beginning.
The only downside of this series is that when you start so high, you can only go down from there. I remember the second season as a real letdown, and the third one was somewhat more decent. After almost 5 years without releasing a new season, this January 2024 marked the premiere of the fourth season. It’s fortunate that in this series, the seasons are standalone, and each season tells a completely new story; otherwise, I’d be scouring the internet for a summary right now.
I must admit I haven’t watched it yet, but I hope that after all this time, they’ve crafted a good comeback for a series that made its mark in the crime genre. What I have seen is that it consists of 6 one-hour episodes, so it can easily be binged on a rainy and cold weekend. I look forward to your comments (without spoilers) about the series.
EDIT: Well, I’ve watched the new season and I quite liked it. It’s not on the level of the first one, but I wasn’t expecting anything better than that. I usually like pure detective genre, meaning, the one that uses scientific method to solve the case, and not the use of magic or the paranormal.
In this season, they play a bit with that resource, but if you wait until the end, you’ll see that it’s quite well done, so give it a chance because you won’t regret it.
The other big series returning in 2024 is… (drumroll)
Tokyo Vice
After 2 years without airing an episode and an intense finale in the first season (which I think I’ll have to rewatch because, darn it, I don’t remember anything anymore!), this amazing series set in Tokyo in the year 1999, revolving around Japanese culture and the challenges it poses for a foreigner, journalism, and Japanese crime represented by the infamous Yakuza, is back.
It seems this second season comes loaded with 10 episodes of approximately 1 hour each.
As I couldn’t remember anything, I watched this official summary at 1.75x speed and more or less remembered the plot, but I’m still quite lost. God bless my memory.
Without further ado, I’m about to watch this first episode of the second season. If you haven’t watched the series, I highly recommend it, especially if you’re a fan of mystery and suspense. Take advantage while the second season is fresh.
Don’t forget that you can watch these series and many more on your Stremio multimedia platform. If you still don’t know what Stremio is, here’s a guide to help you get the most out of it:
