10 Classic Adventure Movies
Today I bring you a list of classic adventure movies essential in cinephile culture. You can access these movies and many more through the Stremio program. If you still don’t know what Stremio is, here’s the installation and usage guide:
1. The Lord of the Rings
Summary: An epic trilogy of adventure and fantasy based on the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. For me, a true masterpiece of cinema.
Awards: Winner of numerous awards, including several Oscars.
Duration: Each movie in the trilogy lasts approximately 3 hours.
2. The Mummy
Summary: An adventurer and a librarian awaken an ancient mummy and must stop it before it destroys the world. An entertaining saga with a love story included.
Awards: Nominated for various visual effects awards.
Duration: Approximately 2 hours.
3. The Princess Bride
Summary: A charming love and adventure story with pirates, giants, and swordsmen.
How many of us were marked by that powerful line: “Hello, my name is Iñigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
Awards: Winner of the Best Script award at the Hugo Awards.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.
4. The Goonies
Summary: A group of friends finds an old treasure map and embarks on an exciting adventure to find it.
Another classic from the ’80s, a movie to watch with the family at Christmas while enjoying a good CHOCOLATE bar.
Awards: Winner of the Best Family Film award at the Young Artist Awards.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.
5. Romancing the Stone
Summary: A romantic novelist joins an adventurer to rescue her sister in Colombia.
Awards: Winner of the Best Film award at the Edgar Awards.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
6. Stardust
Summary: A young man embarks on an adventure in a magical kingdom to find a fallen star.
Awards: Nominated for various awards, including the Hugo and Saturn Awards.
Duration: Approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes.
7. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Summary: Adventurous archaeologist Indiana Jones embarks on a quest to find the Holy Grail. Indiana Jones movies are always a hit, especially the early ones in the series.
There’s nothing more satisfying than watching Harrison Ford punch a Nazi, especially in these turbulent times. I don’t know why, but I have the image of “only the penitent shall pass” ingrained in my mind.
Awards: Winner of several Oscar awards.
Duration: Approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes.
8. Willow
Summary: A farmer and aspiring magician embark on an adventure to protect a baby from an evil queen.
The story has always reminded me of a somewhat lower-budget and more child-oriented version of The Lord of the Rings, but it’s essential to consider that it’s much older and had fewer resources. In any case, it’s a classic that’s always enjoyable to watch.
Awards: Nominated for two Oscars.
Duration: Approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes.
9. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Summary: A child befriends an extraterrestrial and helps it return home.
A Spielberg classic, it reminds me of the typical movies you watch at Christmas, more for family viewing like The Goonies or Willow.
Awards: Winner of four Oscar awards.
Duration: Approximately 2 hours.
10. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
Summary: In this sequel, players must face unknown and bewildering parts of the jungle to escape from the world’s most dangerous game.
Personally, I recommend the entire saga, but especially this sequel, which I found very humorous. It’s not necessary to watch the first one, but it’s a cinematic classic. In total, there are 3 movies.
Awards: Nominated for various awards, including the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Awards.
Duration: Approximately 2 hours and 3 minutes.
