TOP 10 Comedy series
Welcome once again to a new entry on the All Stremio blog! Today, I’d like to talk about what I consider the top 10 comedy series. I warn you, the classics won’t be missing.
1. IT Crowd (2006-2013)
A British comedy that follows the misadventures of a group of misfits working in the basement of a technology company. With its absurd humor and eccentric characters, this series offers a hilarious look at the world of technology.
For me, it’s one of the best series, and surprisingly, I think it’s not very well-known. The first episode is sublime; it will hook you from the beginning. Also, I can’t help but think that “The Big Bang Theory” was inspired by this series, especially Sheldon’s character in Maurice Moss. If you like “The Big Bang Theory,” you’ll love this one.
2. Friends (1994-2004)
This iconic American series couldn’t be missing. Although I don’t think it’s one of the best, for the few people who don’t know it, this series presents the intertwined lives of six friends living in New York. With its humor, romance, and heartwarming moments, “Friends” became a cultural phenomenon and is still beloved by millions of fans worldwide.
3. The Simpsons (1989-present)
Obviously, this series that marked my childhood had to appear. My life feels empty without constant references to its absurd situations. The most famous yellow family on television has entertained us for decades with their adventures in Springfield. With its social satire, irreverent humor, and unforgettable characters, “The Simpsons” has become an icon of popular culture. Although it’s true that the last few years have been a bit rubbish, I stick with the first 13-15 seasons.
4. Family Guy (1999-present)
When “The Simpsons” were in free fall, this series came to fill the void. It knew how to take advantage of the moment. This animated comedy follows the extravagant experiences of the Griffin family in the city of Quahog. With its black humor and pop culture parodies, “Family Guy” has kept viewers laughing for years.
5. American Dad! (2005-present)
A comedy series that follows the adventures of a newly arrived Mexican family trying to adapt to life in the United States. With its fresh humor and exploration of cultural identity themes, “Aliens in America” offers a unique perspective on the immigrant experience.
6. Rick and Morty (2013-present)
For those who like science fiction, dark, and absurd humor, this animated series is a breath of fresh air. Here, you’ll follow the extravagant adventures of the crazy scientist Rick and his grandson Morty through time and space. With its acidic humor and exploration of existential themes, “Rick and Morty” has gained a devoted fan base and critical acclaim. Absolutely essential for me.
7. The Office (USA version) (2005-2013)
I already talked about this series in a previous post. It’s the American adaptation of the successful British series, “The Office.” It takes us behind the scenes of the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the Dunder Mifflin paper company. With its mockumentary style and office humor, this series has earned a place in the hearts of viewers, and especially mine. If you want to read more about it, I recommend the previous post.
8. Seinfeld (1989-1998)
This series, along with “The Simpsons,” was the first comedy series I started watching. Although it has aged a bit poorly, it has a special place in my heart. A comedy that follows the absurd and comedic experiences of Jerry Seinfeld and his friends in New York City. With its focus on the little trivialities of everyday life, “Seinfeld” has earned its place as one of the most influential comedies on television. A series format that is about nothing but has great characters like George, Kramer, and Elaine, which make almost the least funny the protagonist himself, has made this series a classic that couldn’t be missing from this list.
9. The Big Bang Theory (2007-2019)
This group of pretty geeky scientist friends couldn’t be missing from the list. It could well be said that it’s a kind of “Friends” for geeks. Although I must say that I find it funnier because of the type of humor they have. As such, the main themes are friendship, love, and geek culture. With characters that leave a mark and conversations full of wit, that’s why this sitcom became a total success. Everyone loves and hates Sheldon equally.
10. South Park (1997-present)
This irreverent animated series follows the adventures of four children, Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny, in the peculiar town of South Park, Colorado. With its satirical humor and its ability to address controversial topics in a humorous way, “South Park” has earned a reputation for its bravery and social criticism. Over the years, it has maintained its relevance and remains one of the most influential animated series on television.
And for you? What are your top series? Leave them in the comments.
