Stremio Web

Stremio launches its Stremio Web service; you can access it by clicking here:

Basically, it allows us to use Stremio directly in the browser, but if we use it without installing any software, the features are very limited. I’ll explain how it works below.

How Does Stremio Web Work?

There are two modes, one more basic with fewer features and one more advanced:

1. Using Stremio web directly in the browser without installing any software: if you use this mode, you will see a message below indicating the following:

In this mode, functions like converting videos to be compatible with the browser, using addons to expand content, etc., are missing.

To make it simple, if, for example, you wanted to watch the series The Boys from Amazon Prime, instead of playing the content you want to watch directly in the web.stremio tab using its integrated player, what will happen is that it will open a separate Amazon Prime webpage with the episode you’ve selected. It still saves you some time from searching across all your subscribed platforms for the content you want to watch, but it’s quite limiting.

That is to say, in this mode, you will never be able to play anything directly in the web browser; for that, you need to apply the following method.

2. Install the dedicated server, which is currently available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Installing this service does allow you to use all the full features. In fact, you can also use the desktop client to serve the same function as this software. I don’t really see the point because, for that, you might as well just install the Stremio program directly, but for now, this is how it works.

Stremio Web Doesn’t Work

If you’ve gotten this far trying to fix Stremio because its web version isn’t working for you and you’ve received the famous message:

“Stream is not supported
Hint: There is a setting to allow always opening with external player“

Or

“Streaming server is not available”

Personal Opinion on Stremio Web

In my humble opinion, I don’t see any advantage in using Stremio Web, although it’s true that it is in a very early development phase. Maybe we’ll see improvements in the future, but as of today, I still prefer the desktop version.
